After earning my first major on Buck Run See Buck Run,  I was hooked and I contacted Dyane Baldwin and told her "I want another one."  But this time I wanted a deadgrass female that had the drive and desire to become a master hunter too.  Dyane kept telling me I might not be able to have it all but I was determined.  I didn't care about which mating this girl came from I just wanted an outstanding dog.  Well about 2 years later, Dyane called and said that she had a puppy for me.  Polar was awesome.  She set the household into an uproar with her enthusiasm.  Right away I started working on her championship and training her for her hunt titles.  We had a blast.  During one special hunt test we had to run third and it was a very tough pond covered with lily pads and a live flyer.  Polar dived in and started hunting.  She went right to the place the bird landed and started doing small circles looking.  No one could figure out what happened to the bird but she continued to hunt.  We thought she must have pushed it into the mud but she kept making small circles and expanding her search outward.  Finally one of the judges started asking the shooters where the bird was and the co-judge said that the bird wasn't shot and had left the pond and flew away.  The first judge was so angry he took a dead duck tossed it into the pond, Polar snatched it up, delivered to hand and he said we passed.  I was so nervous, but as I was leaving the line, the person in the holding blind told me thanks and then the person in the next holding blind told me thanks and I was confused until I looked back at the pond, there wasn't a lily pad left, just open water.  The water test got a lot easier that day because of a missed shot, a quiet judge and a determined dog. 

    Polar also was show in conformation.  About that time, I had knee surgery and new I couldn't show her at the national that year.  So Dyane came to the rescue again.  She took Polar and worked on her conditioning.  Marie Stump showed her that day and she made it all the way to reserve winners bitch beating out 105 bitched entered that day, only one girl beat her in an entry of 107 bitches.  Wow, what a nice girl, I'd never beaten that many bitches.  But that winter Polar started not feeling good and her head started to swell.  She had contacted a rare disease from a tic bite and never fully recovered.  My awesome girl just finished her junior title the next summer before having to be put down because her jaws no longer opened.  We never did get to finish her championship but she will always be a champion in my mind and all those who knew her determination and desire.
